Happy World Kindness Day! Today students has the opportunity to to stop by the World Kindness Table that was set up in the lunchroom and filled out a card of thanks to delivery to a teacher, coach, parent, or friend. We also hung some of the kindness cards on the Student Services window. Everytime a staff member or student walk past the window, they can be reminded of what they are thankful for. What an amazing thing! Have a great day and don't forget to spread some type of kindness today! #WeareRooseveltWeareKind

It’s Election Day! 🗳️🇺🇸🗳️ Today is especially exciting for many of our high school students, as they cast their ballots for the very first time in a government election! These students have been working hard to prepare, researching national and local candidates as well as amendments and measures, ensuring they’re informed when they step into the voting booth. For several of them, voting feels like a milestone. Washington High School senior Chase Sayabath shared, “Voting really does matter. Voicing your opinion is always important, and pushing for what you believe in is always valid. It’s good to try to make a difference where you can.” Join students like Chase, James, Joe, Teonna, and Emily in doing your part as a U.S. citizen today, VOTE! It's not just for our future but for the future of our students.

Roosevelt Theatre is opening A Christmas Story on November 21-22 at 7pm and November 23rd at 2pm. The cost is 6 dollars each person! There is a QR code on the flyer. Here is a little summary over the play: Humorist Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself at Higbee's Department Store. The consistent response: "You'll shoot your eye out!" All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family's temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys' experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie's father winning a lamp shaped like a woman's leg in a net stocking; Ralphie's fantasy scenarios and more. A Christmas Story is destined to become a theatrical holiday perennial. This is going to be a great show! We have such a talented theatre program!

October is National Principals Month! We are continuing with recognizing our awesome Roosevelt High School Principal's. Here is a little bit of information of our wonderful Assistant Principal, Mr. Lance Luitjens. "I started my admin career at Rapid City South Middle School while coaching girls basketball.  We moved to Kiowa CO, and I was a middle school/high school principal for 5 years.  It was a small school district so in year 4 I was K-12 principal and in year 5 I was K-12 and superintendent and worked with an assistant / AD.  After 5 years I took an assistant principal job at Legend high school in Parker, CO.  This was a similar sized school to RHS.  We had nine administrators in a school of 2000 students.  When we moved to Sioux Falls, I started at Lincoln High School for five years.  (Only 4 administrators)  I have now been a principal in the Sioux Falls School District for 11 years.  An interesting fact about Lance: "Mr. Hazlett and I went to high school together, played basketball and football together, and each had the lead in a musical together… plus his dad was my pastor and married my wife and me! Oh, and we’re both avid Bronco fans! " Thank you for all that you do for our students and staff!

Yesterday in the RISE Department had a very special guest. They wrote Scot Mundt from KELO a fan letter explaining how they watched the weather first period almost everyday. He wrote them back and offered to come and do a weather class. So that is exactly what he did. The kids learned how lightning was made, how tornadoes form, all about weather safety and ended the class with some up close pictures of snowflakes. Thank you Scot for visiting our wonderful RISE department! It was an awesome experience for them!
