Roosevelt's student leadership's last speaker of the year was Dr. Jane Stavem, Superintendent of the Sioux Falls Public School District. This past Thursday, Dr. Stavem provided insight on developing the leader within and encouraged students to face their fears and embrace opportunities. Thank you, Dr. Stavem!

For the second year in a row, the Sioux Falls School District is proud to be called one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association for Music Merchants Foundation. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, the commitment of our students, and to the close ties that have grown together over the years in our music education community. As we celebrate this recognition, let us also celebrate the power of music to inspire, educate, and unite us all.

The Weather Service indicates the greatest threat of severe weather did not materialize in Sioux Falls. We will begin our bus routes at approximately 3pm, so there will be a slight delay in getting elementary and middle school students home. High School dismisses at normal time.

Due to the weather 4-30-24, SFSD will hold all elementary students who walk or ride the bus until the system passes. We expect the system to arrive about 2:45pm and be done around 3pm. Busses will not leave the elementary schools until it is safe to do so. This will also cause a delay in middle school bus routes, so plan accordingly. If wx is still an issue at high school dismissal time, we will encourage students to wait to leave until the system passes. Thank you.

Logan Dosch, Managing Director and Financial Advisor at Northwestern Mutual, visited via Zoom with our student Leadership class this past Wednesday. He discussed different types of leadership tactics he utilizes in the advising field and his passion for his career and life. He explained the difference between honesty and optimism when leading others and how relationship building creates positive growth in both leaders and followers. Thanks Logan!

Today, Roosevelt High School debate coach Luke Cumbee was awarded the LEVO Credit Union Adopt-A-Classroom award! He was nominated by a student who had this to say, "Mr. Cumbee has given me the gift of being able to share my voice. As my debate coach, he's always been there for me to help me grow my confidence and abilities. He's never failed to give me advice on anything I ask, whether it be debate or anything else I come to him with. He's been a constant in my high school life every year, and I know I can always fall back on him if things are getting to be too much for me. Mr. Cumbee is the most involved teacher I know. He makes sure to form a personal relationship with each of his students, and their voices are always heard. He tries to relate to everyone and understand their situation as much as he can."
